Last month we posted about a rocking chair that didn’t quite rock as expected, and that it sometimes takes a bit of skill and ingenuity to sort things out.
That’s what happened to Italian student Gianluca Caregnato, whose ash rocking chair needed a design and fix solution to give it more weight and balance.
It’s the kind of design challenge that all woodworkers face, and Gianluca’s elegant solution to add sections to the rocker’s base seamlessly fits into the chair’s overall design, proving that a design miscalculation can be turned to good effect.
He says that he’s “now very pleased with the chair, and that making it provided a lot of experience.”
Here’s Gianluca and the finished rocking chair, which he hopes to sell at one of our graduation exhibitions.
