Our Introductory Course

For anyone looking for an introduction to woodworking, we run introductory courses several times a year. These short courses are run over a five-day period, Monday to Friday and provide an introduction to a whole range of woodworking skills and techniques.

Course Details

This is a 5-day course designed to give you an introduction to woodworking. You will make a hardwood box, an upholstered stool and you will have the chance to turn a bowl on the lathe

You will learn how to make:

  • A hardwood box with a wooden hinge
  • A small wooden upholstered stool
  • A turned bowl on the lathe
  • An introduction to finishing

Fees

The fee for each short course is £850, with a £200 non-refundable deposit payable to secure your place, with the balance payable one month before the start of the course.

Upholstery Course

Our one-week upholstery course is taught by Victoria Meacham, an experienced teacher and a member of the Association of Master Upholsters and Soft Furnishers.

She runs VM Furnishing, an upholstery business which combines teaching upholstery and furniture upcycling, with domestic and contract upholstery and furniture design projects, working with interior designers and the public.

Victoria has taught upholstery to private individuals and in group workshops, including working for Edinburgh City Council’s adult education program.

The course covers the basics of traditional and modern upholstery from horsehair to foam, and all tools and sundries will be supplied.

Fees

The fee for each short course is £600, with a £200 non-refundable deposit payable to secure your place, the remaining fee is then payable one month before the start of the course. This covers your tuition and materials.
