It’s almost the end of the academic year for the class of 2017/18, and you’re all invited to see the fantastic pieces of furniture that they’ve made.
As always, the quality of design and making has been outstanding, a reflection of our teaching excellence and our students’ innate talents.
The week of exhibition and celebration beings next Monday at Greyfriars Kirk in the heart of old Edinburgh. On Monday 11th June, the exhibition and sale of work will be open from 1pm until 8pm.
On the Monday evening, we’re delighted that Dr Adam Bowett, chairman of the Chippendale Society, will be awarding a prize to one of our students.
Dr Bowett will be presenting the prize on behalf of the Society to the student whose work best reflects the ethos of what Thomas Chippendale stood for, and the kind of furniture that the great cabinetmaker would approve of now.
On Tuesday 12th June, the exhibition will be open from 10am until 8pm. In the evening, Professor Richard Demarco CBE will be awarding the third annual Demarco Prize 2018.
Professor Demarco is one of the UK’s leading arts commentators, a leading advocate for contemporary art, and honorary president of the Fine Furniture Guild, an association of alumni of the Chippendale school.
His contributions to contemporary art have been recognised on numerous occasions, receiving the Polish Gold Order of Merit, the Cavaliere della Republica d’Italia, and the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres de France.
If you can’t make it into the Edinburgh exhibition, be sure to come to the school for our Open Evening (Friday 15th June, 6pm until 8pm) or Open Day (Saturday 16th June, 10am to 4pm).
