Canadian student, Andrew Brassington, has recently been awarded ‘Student of The Year 2015’ at The Chippendale International School of Furniture. During his year on our full-time furniture course, Andrew proved himself to have many special talents in the world of woodworking and furniture making.
Here you can see a demonstration of his woodcarving skills, including an enviable ability to visualise his objective and bravely create a desired shape by cutting and carving simple blocks of lime wood.
Andrew’s ability to focus and concentrate was apparent throughout the course, as can be seen by the progress he made in transforming these two ‘ugly ducklings’ into a majestic pair of swans.
Hand-carved bull-rushes were an ingenious and charming solution to providing extra balance for a glass table top . . .
Other items made by Andrew during his time at The Chippendale School included a Maple Tree Door with maple leaves etched into the black tempered glass, a ‘Pool Chair’ incorporating pool cues and pool balls – inspired by a Windsor chair design, and two Shamrock tables, ideal for an Irish garden!
