Upholstering a new course

Last week we announced the introduction of a new summer upholstery course, to complement other woodworking courses that we run through the year.

Some basic information is now here on our website, as well as an application form.  Please be aware that numbers on the course are limited, so early booking is recommended.

We’re particularly excited to be introducing this course as it’s the first one that isn’t centred on furniture design and making.

Instead, it’s a course to teach a skill complementary to furniture making and, as one of the world’s leading woodworking schools, we want to extend the range of our courses to encompass a number of other ancillary skills.

It’s aimed both at those with some upholstery experience and who want to extend their skillset, as well as complete novices to upholstery.

The course, for which all equipment and materials are provided, will then allow students to upholster their own furniture at home – or to upcycle old and worn pieces.

We’re delighted that the tutor on this course will be the hugely-experienced and talented Victoria Meacham, who is a graduate of the Chippendale school’s professional course and a member of the Association of Master Upholsters & Soft Furnishers.

Victoria also runs VM Furnishing, an upholstery business that combines teaching upholstery with furniture upcycling, as well as undertaking domestic and contract upholstery and furniture design projects, working with both interior designers and the public.

The course will run from 5th – 9th August 2019 and fees are £500, with a £200 deposit payable to secure your place, the balance then payable one month before the start of the course.
