30-week professional course tutor

Looking for a rewarding career in teaching?

Professional course tutor (9-month contract)

As a professional course tutor at Chippendale School, you will provide tuition to a small group of international students on the school’s most sough-after intensive 30-week furniture making course over a period of 9 months. You will teach from October 2024 to June 2025 with an unpaid summer break.

You will be responsible for guiding and inspiring students with a range of abilities, from complete novices to hobbyists and those with some level of experience, in a range of woodworking techniques and fine furniture making.

The school is undergoing an exciting period of growth and expansion and we are looking for an ambitious and skilled craftsperson who will become a passionate member of the team to join in our legacy of fine furniture making.

Skills & experience

We’re in search of an individual who is deeply immersed in the world of woodworking, with years of hands-on experience in the craft. Crucially, we need someone who can not only master their own skills but also nurture and guide others along their woodworking journey, particularly those taking their first steps into this captivating world.

While prior teaching experience is advantageous, what truly matters is a strong ability to effectively communicate with woodworking novices, demonstrating your prowess as both a designer and craftsman.

In this role, you’ll find yourself articulating complex woodworking techniques to small groups with ease. The position, therefore, calls for someone adaptable, patient, and above all, committed to bringing out the best in others. You will be both proactive and forward thinking, in your approach to teaching and within the workshop as part of a strong team.

Although traditional woodworking skills are fundamental to this position, proficiency in CAD and CNC/laser cutting techniques would be advantageous.

We’re looking for someone who is both tidy and organised with great time-keeping, demonstrating exemplary behaviour.

If you possess these qualities, you may just be the ideal candidate to inspire the next generation of woodworking enthusiasts.
