Kent Turner, from Washington State, had been looking to make a career change into fine furniture design and making for several years.
So we’re delighted that the former builder who lives on an island north of Seattle has taken the plunge and enrolled at the Chippendale school.
Kent already knows a thing or two about working with wood, having been involved for more than a decade in building timber-frame homes – mostly made from Douglas fir.
Kent has a few ideas for what he might do after graduation, although he’s not yet decided on any specific career path – and may stay on in incubation space at the school.
That’s one of the advantages of the Chippendale school because, after graduation, students can rent space on the campus, without incurring the expense of buying expensive woodworking machinery and equipment.
