PLEASE NOTE THIS BURSARY IS NOW CLOSED

Are you interested in the craft of fine furniture making? Would you like to build woodworking skills with the fun and creativity of learning something new? If so, apply for this amazing opportunity to get a fully funded space on the 4-week fine furniture making course at the Chippendale International School of Furniture (no prior woodworking experience required).

The Chippendale International School of Furniture is a place full of creativity and passion for the craft of furniture design and woodworking. The School is nestled in the heart of the East Lothian countryside, 3.5 miles from Haddington.

This is an exceptional opportunity for both absolute beginners and those with existing woodworking experience. It will give you a taste of being a woodworker and hopefully the desire to pursue it further.

What does the Intermediate course involve?

You will be taught 4 weeks of furniture designing and making by Alan McGovern and Fiona Gilfillan, both skilled cabinet makers with numerous years of experience. You will design a piece of furniture and develop the skills required to make it, including:

–       Laying out your design and making a cutting list

–       Using workshop machinery such as a table saw, planer, bandsaw, mitre saw and router

–       Making wood joints by hand and using machines

–       Sharpening hand tools

Time permitting, you may make an additional small piece such as a small box.
