The average life-span of a sofa is 2,958 days, which is roughly eight years, and during its life will have about 782 people sitting on it.
It’s also used for eating a meal on 13 times a month, which adds up to 1,261 meals over its lifetime.
Hardly surprising that your sofa and other upholstered chairs wear out, but it doesn’t mean that you have to throw them out because, with a bit of TLC, your sofas and chairs can be given a new lease of life.
That’s where our new one-week upholstery course is designed to help, taught by the hugely-experienced and talented Victoria Meacham, who is a graduate of the Chippendale school’s professional course and a member of The Association of Master Upholsters & Soft Furnishers.
During the week she’ll be teaching all aspects of both traditional and modern upholstery, with the course aimed both at those with some upholstery experience and who want to extend their skillset, and complete novices to upholstery.
Victoria also runs VM Furnishing, an upholstery business that combines teaching upholstery with furniture upcycling, as well as undertaking domestic and contract upholstery and furniture design projects, working with both interior designers and the public.
The course will run from 5th – 9th August 2019 and fees are £500, with a £200 deposit payable to secure your place, the balance then payable one month before the start of the course. The course fee covers the cost of all equipment and materials.
