Frazer Reid, owner of FAR Cabinet Makers, will be exhibiting at Cambo Stables in Fife until the 15th December.
He has two passions in life – woodworking and surfing, and when he set up in business the obvious thing to do was to combine the two.
“I therefore get to do what I love every day, creating artistic and functional pieces of furniture and hollow wooden surfboards. Everything is done by me, from timber selection to finishing, ensuring the highest standards from start to finish, he says.
Cambo Stables is part of the Cambo House and Estate, on the east coast of Fife, seven miles south of St Andrews. The estate has been in the Erskine family for 300 years and dates from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Frazer, a graduate of the Chippendale school in 2012, is exhibiting several pieces of fine furniture as well as beautifully-made surfboards, including one recent board (pictured above) made from paulownia, a fast-growing hardwood native to Southeast Asia, with pyrography art work by Eben Rautenbach, also known as LeRoc.
His furniture collections comprise pieces that are beautiful, functional or humorous – for example, his cedar slice tables or Scotsman kilt stool (both pictured below).
Frazer also runs three-day surfboard-building workshops, one-day bodysurfing handplane courses, with several booked for 2019 already. For those who can’t make it to Fife, he also offers build-at-home kits, and custom built boards are always available on demand.
“All the furniture I make is to commission which ensures that every piece is exactly what the customer wants. I love a challenge and I’m always pushing the limits of what I can make from wood, from bespoke jewelry boxes to beds and kitchens,” says Frazer.
“I pride myself on working to the highest standards to produce beautiful and functional pieces of furniture that are built to last, and I’m more than happy to work with customers to design the perfect piece,” he says.
