For a previous piece, Rohit Heda took inspiration from the late great Sam Maloof, to create a beautiful walnut table.
Rohit, from Belgaum in the Indian state of Karnataka, is a great admirer of Maloof, the American furniture designer best known for his rocking chairs. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan both owned Maloof rockers.
But proving that inspiration can come in different forms, Rohit is now completing a console table with olive ash legs and a highly-complex mahogany veneered top.
The table required almost 500 pieces of precisely-cut mahogany veneer, each glued and pressed into place, and finally finished with spray lacquer.
Rohit is seen here burnishing the table to a lustrous shine, and we’ll post an image next week of the completed piece.
After graduation, Rohit will be returning to his native city to open his own workshop.
