It’s a beautifully-crafted writing desk that owes much to the contemporary movement of the late 20th century.
It’s also the creation of John Grillo, a former business intelligence analyst from Denver, Colorado, who has also been a keen woodworking hobbyist.
His use of negative space and clean, simple lines create a feeling of openness. This beech writing desk exemplifies contemporary furniture.
The key challenges in its design and making were the angle of the legs and integrating angled dovetails into its angled drawer.
John will be taking his desk back to Denver where he’ll be setting up Rocky Mountain Fine Woodworking where he hopes to specialise in custom furniture and antique restoration.
John is now working on a bird’s eye maple and fumed oak console table, and we’ll bring you some details and photographs soon.
